On May 15, 2024, a video game company named U.X.E. released a video game called One Country. I pre-ordered it in March 2024 and played it almost every day since, even buying so many copies of the game to give to my friends. It was easily one of my most played games that I was hoping to get as many people into, and possibly the game I've spent the most money on (I can easily say I've spent over $1k on this game).
But then, they came back to hit me in April 2025 when they announced this:
On April 20, 2025 at 5:00 PM (UTC), we will delist One Country, the One Country Series Pass, and all CP (Country Point) packs from all storefronts. On July 31, 2025, at 10:00 PM (UTC), we will shut down the servers for One Country for all platforms, meaning after this time, the game will no longer be playable by anyone for any platform.
This is probably the most ridiculous thing I've seen so far. And worse, they are only giving refunds to those who bought the game or made an in-game purchase after March 20th, 2025, which for me only gets me back $100 (two copies worth), less than ⅒ of how much I've spent on this game.
Ironically, in 2019 U.X.E. made a game called Counterfeit, which is about a company stealing from their customers and then denying it. Did they somehow predict their future selves or what?
